We want to be open and accessible to all visitors to ensure that everyone can enjoy our heritage site and museum. We hope the following information will help you plan your visit to the Roman Baths.

The site is 90% accessible to wheelchair users and visitors with hearing or visual impairments can enjoy the site using the British Sign Language or fully descriptive audio tour and tactile models. We also provide information for visitors with autism and potential claustrophobia. View our accessibility guide here.

A carer or companion is welcome to join a ticket holder free of charge. To book your carer or companion ticket, please select a free carer ticket when booking online.

Because the Roman Baths are six metres below street level, there are a number of steps throughout the site. To access the entire site, you will still need to climb some steps.

Access to the mezzanine displays, lower museum, Great Bath and East Baths is via accessible lifts. For safety reasons a maximum of four wheelchair users can access the museum at any one time. If you require the lifts to facilitate your visit, please contact our Customer Service team in advance on 01225 477785 to ensure that we’re able to welcome you at your chosen time.

We have one motorised scooter, which can be used by visitors whose own motorised scooters exceed a width of 1200mm, as scooters larger than this are not compatible with some of our lifts. We offer every visitor a hand-held audioguide to help you enjoy your visit. If it is difficult for you to hold, please ask for an ear-piece or headphones. A copy of our audio guide transcripts are also available in paper format and, on request, can be emailed to you in advance of your visit.

If you are visiting with young children we would encourage you to use a baby carrier rather than a pushchair. Due to the steep steps and narrow walkways throughout the museum, pushchairs need to be left in the main reception hall during your visit. A limited number of baby carriers are available upon request
The Roman Baths is an ancient site with some areas of historic flooring around the bathing complex. We recommend sensible footwear for your visit.

Wheelchair access

There is level access from the Abbey Church Yard entrance to most of the ground floor areas including the 18th century Pump Room, the Sun Lounge which overlooks the hot spring and the outside Terrace which overlooks the Great Bath. The front door opening width is 1320mm (52in). There is also level access to the main Roman Baths shop from Stall Street.

Access to the mezzanine displays, lower museum, Great Bath and East Baths is via four accessible lifts. For safety reasons a maximum of four wheelchair users can access the lower levels at any one time. The maximum width of the lift is 1200mm. There is one accessible toilet close to the Roman Baths entrance and one at the beginning of the Kings Bath corridor.
