World Heritage Day: Water is Best

12 April 2025 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
Celebrate Bath’s World Heritage status with free activities for all
Visitors learning about history at World Heritage Day 2023

Celebrate Bath’s World Heritage status with free activities for all in the Bath World Heritage Centre, Roman Baths Clore Learning Centre and Bath Abbey.  There are guided tours of Bath’s Spa Quarter too.
This year we are exploring the theme ‘Water is best' with a day of events, activities, and walks looking at the hot springs that make Bath a unique place in Britain.

We'll be joined by some of Bath's great heritage organisations including Bath Abbey, Bath Preservation Trust, the National Trust, The Roman Baths, and Victoria Art Gallery for a packed programme of hands-on activities throughout the day. Use watercolours to create a special artwork, find out how the Romans tamed the Springs, and handle archaeological finds.

Delve into the changing use of the Pump Room in Bath and see rare images of this popular local attraction through its history as it has changed and adapted to the needs of visitors. On display will be beautiful and unusual Georgian drinking glasses for many different tipples. Find out how the Georgians took their drink.

The Mayor of Bath’s Honorary Guides will lead guided tours around the Spa Quarter celebrating the hot springs. Included is a visit to the Abbey plant room, normally closed to the public, to explore its innovative new eco-heating system, powered by the hot wastewater from the Hot Spring.
